The Fall of the House of Usher: Why did Verna offer to test the heart mesh?

In the first episode of The Fall of the House of Usher, a fateful day led to Verna entering the Usher family's lives. The Usher family, headed by Roderick Usher, utilizes tragic events to further their own interests. When their youngest son, Prospero, dies under mysterious circumstances, Roderick sees it as an opportunity to weaponize his death. He wants to turn Prospero's demise into a powerful tool for the family and their pharmaceutical empire, Fortunato Pharmaceuticals. In the aftermath of Prospero's death, the family faces the consequences of the tragedy. Morelle, who attended the debauchery fest where the massacre occurred, is left severely injured and hospitalized. Meanwhile, it is discovered that Prospero's body contained Monty, a drug similar to Roderick's own creation, Ligodone. These findings could potentially ruin the Usher family's reputation, but they have a plan to spin the story in their favor.Meanwhile, Verna enters the Usher family's lives. She offers herself as a test subject for Victorine's heart mesh experiment, despite having an irregular heartbeat. She also becomes involved in Tamerlane and William's sexual domesticity games, taking on the persona of Crystal, a call girl. Lastly, Camille, who is obsessed with finding dirt on Victorine, encounters Verna dressed as a security guard at the RUE laboratory. Little does Camille know that this encounter will have fateful consequences for her. Each member of the Usher family has their own role to play. Camille is responsible for crafting the family's public persona, while Frederick is being groomed to take over the family business. Tamerlane runs her own wellness empire, Leo is a video game master, and Victorine focuses on science and medicine. As for Prospero, he was the party boy of the family.Amidst their grieving, the Usher family approaches death with a utilitarian mindset. They see death as an opportunity to gain something, whether it be a party or a sob story for the press. The sacrifices made for the growth of Fortunato Pharmaceuticals, including the deaths related to Ligodone, are not accidental. Prospero's death was also not an accident, and Madeline Usher is aware of this.As Verna slithers her way into the lives of each Usher sibling, she fulfills various roles and bides her time to bring down the fall of the Usher family. Camille, suspecting Victorine as the informant within the family, investigates the animal trials at RUE Morgue. She discovers that Victorine has been falsifying her test results and replacing dead monkeys with live ones, creating the illusion of success for her heart mesh experiment.Camille confronts Victorine in her lab, and Verna, disguised as a security guard, tries to warn Camille not to enter. Ignoring the warning, Camille goes inside and takes photos of the manipulated chimps. Verna suddenly transforms into a raging ape and attacks Camille. The next morning, the lab is covered in blood, and Camille's mangled body lies in a corner while a chimp stands nearby. In a flashback, we also see Roderick's rise within Fortunato Pharmaceuticals. After discovering that Ligodone was bought without his knowledge, Roderick confronts his superior. Instead of seeking revenge immediately, Roderick is promoted and given the opportunity to get closer to his superior, setting the stage for future plans. All of these events eventually lead back to the fateful day in Episode 1 when Roderick and Madeline first encountered Verna at a bar on New Year's Eve. This encounter would shape the course of their lives and ultimately result in the tragic events that unfold in the series.
