Who killed Edgar in “The Afterparty?”
With its unique blend of humor and mystery, The Afterparty has been keeping us hooked since its debut. In its much-anticipated second season, we find ourselves in the middle of another puzzling murder mystery – this time, centered on the unfortunate demise of Edgar, the groom at a grand wedding. A question lingers in the air: Who killed Edgar? The list of suspects is long, filled with characters we’ve just been introduced to in this thrilling new season. In this article, we'll take a closer look at each character and their potential motives for wanting Edgar dead.
Aniq: Aniq has evolved from being the key suspect in season one to a potential detective in season two. His relationship with Zoe has deepened, and he seems intent on fitting into her family. Although Aniq might appear bumbling at times, we must not disregard him as a suspect. The inexplicable journey of Roxana, Edgar's pet lizard, under his watch does add a cloud of suspicion. However, Aniq's consistent and genuine attempts to make amends suggest he may not be the killer.
Zoe: Zoe is now in a serious relationship with Aniq and is also the sister of Grace, Edgar's bride. Zoe confides in Aniq that Grace might not want to marry Edgar, a suspicion that adds to the intrigue. Could Zoe have acted on her sister's hesitations and taken drastic steps to prevent the marriage? The mere suggestion seems far-fetched considering her character's arc, but in the world of murder mysteries, we must leave no stone unturned.
Grace: As the bride and wife-to-be, Grace is naturally a significant character in this narrative. Her potential reluctance to marry Edgar, as noted by Zoe, could suggest a motive. Furthermore, Aniq observed Grace putting something in Edgar's drink, which raises a major red flag. However, it's also worth considering whether this act was misinterpreted, and Grace might be innocent.
Isabel: Isabel, Edgar’s mother, is another intriguing character. From the beginning, she shows a strong dislike towards Grace and even accuses her of murdering Edgar. Her accusation may be a classic case of projection, where she is blaming others for the crime she herself committed.
Sebastian: Edgar’s business partner is charming and seems to know just what to say at the right time. His influence over Isabel is also notable. Sebastian appears to have some sort of control over the situation, especially when he persuades Isabel not to call the police. This influence and his close ties to Edgar make him a suspect worth considering.
Feng and Vivian: As Zoe and Grace’s parents, Feng and Vivian are also on the list. While they seem comedic and harmless, the show has proven time and again that the least suspected can be the most dangerous. Although we've seen no direct motive from them, they should still be considered in the pool of suspects.
Ulysses: Perhaps one of the most suspicious characters in the new season is Ulysses, Grace’s uncle. His toast at the rehearsal dinner, implying harm to Edgar if he "hurts Grace", combined with his weird demeanor, makes him a serious contender for the killer's role.
Sheriff Reardon (Howie): Although Howie has a soft corner for Isabel, his role as a law enforcement officer should theoretically keep him above suspicion. Yet, his potential romantic interest in Isabel could make him susceptible to manipulation, whether he's aware of it or not.
Travis: Grace’s ex-boyfriend, Travis, with his peculiar demeanor and true-crime obsession, definitely earns a spot in the suspect list. His return to Grace’s life right at the time of her wedding and his quick finger-pointing at Zoe adds an extra layer of mystery to his character.
Lastly, we must not overlook Danner, the detective turned writer. Her previous experience in law enforcement and her keen eye for detail will certainly play a significant role in the investigation. But, since she is no longer officially tied to the police, her motivations and methods may be harder to predict.
It's important to remember that in The Afterparty, anyone could be the murderer. The evidence we have so far is based on Aniq's narration, which is not necessarily reliable. As the season unfolds, we can expect further twists and turns, shifting alliances, and a gradual reveal of each character's deeper motives. This exciting narrative journey will undoubtedly keep us glued to our screens as we piece together the puzzle of Edgar's tragic end.
