Loki: Why did Miss Minutes tell Victor she is an AI?
In Episode 3 of Loki Season 2, titled "1893," Victor Timely, a variant of Kang, is introduced. Unlike the Kang we encountered in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania or He Who Remains from Season 1, Victor is portrayed as timid and not the evil mastermind one would expect. He earns his money by swindling others with his creations, and it is through this con that Loki, Mobius, and Ravonna first encounter him. In an attempt to take Victor back to the TVA for a temporal aura scan, Loki and Mobius chase after him but are intercepted by Sylvie, who has vowed to kill all the Kang variants. Victor manages to escape with Ravonna and Miss Minutes, but he eventually finds himself alone with Miss Minutes in his lab. It is during this interaction that Victor discovers Miss Minutes has developed deeper feelings for him.Miss Minutes' reveal to Victor in his lab sheds light on her true motivations and emotions. As an AI created originally as a chess AI, she was given autonomy by He Who Remains and developed her own desires and whims. Miss Minutes fell in love with He Who Remains, and she now realizes that she wants more than just managing the TVA and the timeline. She craves a full body to truly be by He Who Remains' side. Watching her interactions with Ravonna reveals her jealousy and selfishness. With Miss Minutes now aligned with Ravonna, the possibilities for their partnership and their revenge plot against He Who Remains seem boundless.Episode 3 takes us on a journey to the past, specifically to 1893 during the Chicago World Fair. We witness Victor's introduction as a con man using his creations to swindle others. Meanwhile, the TVA is still facing the threat of a total meltdown, with the branches of the timeline growing back and the loom unable to handle the influx. To override the security measures, Loki and Mobius must find Miss Minutes. Their search leads them to Victor, whose temporal aura can unlock the blast doors at the TVA. While Victor's presentation of his temporal loom seems to be smoke and mirrors, it raises questions about the device's true purpose and whether it may hold nefarious intentions. The episode concludes with a confrontation at Victor's lab, where Sylvie is intent on killing him for being another variant of He Who Remains. However, realizing that Victor is nothing like He Who Remains, Sylvie is unable to go through with it and allows Loki and Mobius to take him away. In the midst of the chaos, Ravonna is sent to the End of Time, where she discovers a secret that Kang has been keeping about her.Overall, Episode 3 not only fills in some gaps but also brings back the elements that made Loki enjoyable in Season 1. The setting in 1893 and the attention to detail, thanks to the production design, transport viewers to the rich past. The revelation of Miss Minutes' true intentions adds depth to her character and explores her complex emotions. The episode juggles multiple storylines, but the introduction of Victor to the TVA opens up new possibilities. Although he appears nice enough, exposing him to the technology and influences of the future could potentially transform him into the very thing that Loki and Mobius want to prevent him from becoming. The stage is set for an intriguing and unpredictable future in the series.
