Gen V: Why did Cate erase Luke's memory?

In the Gen V episode "Welcome to the Monster Club," it is revealed that Cate, not Rufus, has the power to wipe the memories of the group whenever she wants. Cate has been working as a sleeper agent for Indira Shetty for three years, under the manipulation and control of Shetty. Shetty's true aims are to gain complete control of superhumans by perfecting a virus that can control them. As a middle manager, Shetty carries out the demands of a corporate board and shareholders.During the party that nobody can remember, Marie and Jordan ended up sleeping together. Emma encourages Marie to share her feelings about Jordan, but Marie struggles to do so because her memory was wiped by Cate. Additionally, it is revealed that during the party, the group was fitted with subcutaneous tracking devices, which Marie senses with her power.Emma's visit with Sam at the Stardust Drive-In uncovers more about Cate. Sam experiences a mental trauma, causing him to see Emma as a puppet and go into a psychotic episode. During this episode, Sam reveals that Cate repeatedly wiped Luke's memory of him under Shetty's orders. Emma shares this information with Marie, which leads to a confrontation with Cate. In tears, Cate allows Andre to remember everything she made him forget, but Andre is left shattered and angry over what she stole from him.As the episode concludes, it appears that Andre, Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Sam are now united against the larger conspiracy they have uncovered.
